Are Locker Boards hard to ride?
Riding a Locker Board is just as easy to ride as a normal skateboard. It's about foot placement. Your feet are closer together because the board is smaller. When cruising, it's best to keep your feet on the bolts on the deck. The board is easier to do tricks on than a normal skateboard because the compact size makes it flip faster.
Where does Locker Board get decks to upcycle?
Locker Board mini-skateboards are upcycled and refinished top to bottom from recycled decks donated through our skate shop retailer network, and from new but slightly blemished boards manufacturers decide not to sell.
What size is the standard Locker Board deck?
The standard Locker Board mini-skateboard deck is 17 inches long. Widths vary depending upon the sustainable deck that we rescued from the landfill. Widths vary between 7.5-inch to 8.5-inch.
What’s the difference between a sustainable and recycled skateboard deck?
Great question! Both types are considered upcycled and friendly to the environment because they keep unwanted boards out of local landfills. Our recycled boards are refinished top to bottom from recycled decks donated through our skate shop retailer network. Boards we call sustainable come from new but slightly blemished boards we rescue from manufacturers before being discarded as waste. Decks from either source that don’t meet Locker Board quality standards are removed from the production stream and handled separately.
Does Locker Board refit its skateboards with new or used parts?
New. In fact, Locker Board refits every board with all-new parts that currently include:
- A 17-in. Locker Board Sustainable or Recycled Deck affixed with New U.S.-made Jessup Grip Tape
- New U.S.-made Trucks
- New U.S.-made Wheels
- New ABEC 7 Steel Bearings
- New Risers (except on Trickster skateboards)
Do I have to apply my own grip tape?
No, your new Locker Board skateboard arrives fully assembled and ready to ride, complete with brand new U.S.-made Jessup grip tape already affixed.
I heard I can donate my used skateboard decks at Vans. Is that true?
Yes. As part of our valued retail-partner network, Van’s graciously accepts used boards for Locker Board upcycling. Check participating locations here. View Locker Board’s complete list of strategic partners.
If my Locker Board arrives with a problem, what should I do?
Problems with brand new boards are rare. But if you notice a potential issue after your out-of-the box inspection, please set the board aside without riding it and call us immediately at 949-214-4007 ext 0.
Do you have any tips for keeping it well maintained?
Maintaining your new Locker Board is really smart! Our recommendations for care and upkeep are the same as for any skateboard that you want to look great and last longer, including keeping it inside when you are done riding.

What is the Independent Youth Organization and how can I get involved?
Our founder, Carson Kropfl, is a mentor and regular participant in Independent Youth Inc. (IY) activities. The organization was founded in May, 2010 as a social enterprise that educates 12-21 year olds on entrepreneurship. Its mission is to generate awareness and understanding of business among youth through an array of educational programs and hands-on experiences. Learn more at the IY website.
Why does Locker Board support the Tony Hawk Foundation?
Simple. Because his generosity and commitment to skateboarding and skateboarding education are unsurpassed in our industry. We especially love how, through special events, grants and technical assistance, the Foundation helps develop public skateboard parks in low-income communities across the county. To demonstrate our appreciation and support for this effort, Locker Board donates $1 for every board we sell to the Tony Hawk Foundation.
Why don’t you hand make Locker Board mini-skateboards anymore?
As Carson’s mom, Carrie, will tell you, Carson loves nothing more than disappearing to his backyard workshop to hand-make Locker Board skateboards. However, because demand for Locker Boards is so high, there’s no way he could make them fast enough. That’s why we asked our friends at world-famous PS Stix Skateboard Manufacturing to handle production. Don’t worry, Locker Boards are still made by hand and still the only non-folding skateboard available that is compact enough to fit inside a backpack.
